France is known for hosting the Tour de France. Tour de France takes place each July and lasts for three weeks. French cyclists enthusiastically participate every year. Large numbers of cycling enthusiasts from all over the world come to participate in “Tour de France”. Tour has been won 36 times by French cyclists. 

  1. Football – Le Football 

Football was introduced in France in 1919 from England. Initially Football was popular in the Paris region and in the Northern part of France. France was the 1984 Olympic Champion. France also won the FIFA World cup in 1998 and in 2018. France is also one of only ten teams to have won the UEFA European Championship. As of 2020, Ligue 1 champions are Paris Saint-Germain.

Judo is the 4th most popular sport in France. Many kids take part in Judo competitions in France. No country has won medals in the Judo Olympics besides Japan. 

5. Basketball – Le basketball

Basketball has been a well liked sport in France. The National Basketball team has grown a strong reputation over the years. Over the years the team has had good results. The senior team won their first title ever at the EuroBasket 2013. The France women’s national basketball team has twice been European champion (2001 and 2009), and also claimed a silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
